This course allows students to study medical characteristics of common disabilities and methods for designing appropriate sport and exercise programs. Clinical experiences with athletes/physically active individuals with disabilities will be available during the semester. Frequency: Every Fall and Winter. Learning Outcomes

  1. Apply terminology used in the physical education of persons with disabilities.
  2. Analyze and discuss the pertinent legislation governing general and physical education for special populations.
  3. Develop appropriate programs and modifications of skills that allow special populations to participate in sport and physical education.
  4. Identify the etiology and prognosis for various neurological, orthopedic, metabolic, and sensory disorders that effect acquisition of sport and physical education skills.
