About Linda Gordon

Routeburn Track, New Zealand
Linda A. Gordon earned her Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the University of Colorado at Boulder. She
taught literature and composition in the Division of Humanities in the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences,
1990-2004. A specialist in modernism, she presented and published essays on the art and literature of the period.
Her interests were wide ranging, however, and took her far beyond her original pursuits—literally and
figuratively. She was at the vanguard of integrating technology into the classroom, offering both instruction
and encouragement to her colleagues and students. Outside of academia, she devoted herself to a variety of artistic,
environmental, and social causes. She volunteered for a range of organizations, from the Bonnet House to Habitat
for Humanity, and adopted Raggs, a rescued greyhound. She nurtured a passion for travel and, in her inimitable
fashion, embarked on a solitary journey around the world in 1996, keeping a journal of her adventures. An avid
outdoorswoman, a proponent of the arts, a champion of social causes, Linda A. Gordon was an educator in the
truest sense of the word.
