Description

Physical therapists examine and treat musculoskeletal problems to help individuals recover from physical injury. The NSU doctor of physical therapy (D.P.T.), offered through the Health Professions Division's College of Allied Health and Nursing, provides students the opportunity to perform faculty-supervised internships in a variety of settings, including non-traditional community settings such as homeless shelters or senior centers.

Requirements

The Dual Admission Program in physical therapy is restricted to entering freshmen. Candidates are required to pursue a bachelor's degree in athletic training or biology. They must achieve, at minimum, one of three high school GPA/SAT score combinations: 3.3 GPA/1100 SAT, 3.5 GPA/1080 SAT, or 3.8 GPA/1050 SAT. In addition, candidates must have four years of mathematics (through pre-calculus), three years of science (including biology and chemistry), and four years of English.

The Dual Admission Program in physical therapy normally requires three years of undergraduate education and three years of graduate study. After successfully completing the first year in graduate studies, the student is eligible to receive a bachelors degree from the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences.

In addition to an undergraduate studies application, a dual admissions application must be submitted along with three references. One from a high school science teacher, one from a guidance counselor, and one from a professional physical therapist. A preadmissions interview is required.
