Digressions Magazine

Digressions is the student-run literary magazine sponsored by the Division of Humanities. Students are encouraged to submit original works of poetry, short fiction, artwork and photography for consideration in the magazine, which is published yearly in the winter semester.

Legal Studies Major

The student-faculty interaction and the commitment of the professors make the legal studies program at NSU exceptional. Small classes (seldom larger than 30 students) allow professors to get to know each student. Students have an outstanding opportunity to learn and excel in this supportive yet challenging environment. Legal studies majors may also select from a number of minors offered by the college.

Special programs include visits by judges, attorneys, and prosecutors.

The legal studies major, within the college's Division of Humanities, is designed for students interested in preparing for law school or other graduate study and for those who want to pursue a humanities major with a legal perspective. The courses in the major assist students in developing analytical and communication skills and an understanding of economic, political, and social contexts within which legal issues arise.

The legal studies major is offered during the day and evening on NSU’s main campus.

Thinking Ahead

Law has been central to shaping a distinctive American culture. Because of its sweeping influence on society, the law will likely continue to expand its defining role in American daily life. As the demand for private and public legal services grows, the demand for keenly analytic and reasoning practitioners expands. NSU's legal studies program focuses on developing these abilities and on preparing students for careers in a global environment that requires an increasing sensitivity to cultural and political diversity.

The successful legal studies graduate can confidently pursue graduate school in law, business, history, politics, and economics. Some fields in which legal studies majors find jobs include:

  • Court officials
  • Corrections officers
  • Business
  • Government positions
