A Message from the Major Chair
As the major chair for the communication
studies program at NSU, I invite you to explore the exciting possibilities that a bachelor’s degree in communication
studies offers.
In addition to developing a wide array of abilities that will help you communicate effectively with a variety of diverse audiences in challenging contexts, you will have opportunities to develop real-world skills through studying with highly knowledgeable and experienced professors in small classes, networking with industry professionals, completing internships with prestigious media organizations and public relations firms, and more.
If you are ready to take your first step on the pathway to a future in communication, please contact the Division of Humanities at (954) 262-8200.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Reem, M.S.
Instructor, Communication Studies Major Chair
Division of Humanities
Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences
The communication studies program, within the college's Division of Humanities, prepares students to excel in such fields as radio and television broadcasting, film, journalism, new media, public relations, education, law, and more.
As communication studies majors, students will also be trained on state-of-the-art equipment to enable them to develop professional quality portfolios that display their talents to prospective employers in various fields of communication.
Thinking Ahead
Communication studies majors attain business, academic, and professional positions in many areas.
Occupations that require effective public-communication skills include spokesperson, announcer, and on-air talent. In business, communication studies degrees prepare students for careers as corporate trainers, advertising coordinators, managers, public-relations agents, consultants, and human-resources specialists.
Additionally, students with a degree in communication studies can pursue a career in education as a high school or college instructor after completing appropriate post-graduate education and/or certification.
Communication specialists can serve effectively in government as speech writers, campaign managers, and professional lobbyists. Communication studies degrees also provide good preparation for careers in arbitration, negotiation, and labor relations.
