Dear Students‚
On May 12, NSU hosted its 43rd Commencement ceremony, celebrating the outstanding academic accomplishments of our graduating class. Congratulations to the nearly 700 students who crossed the stage this year!
As NSU alumni, the class of 2012 becomes part of a community exceeding 145,000 members working and living around the world. For you, these academic, professional, and personal contacts will serve as a lifelong network, extending the reach of your college education.
Graduates and future graduates: I wish you the best in all that you do. To quote NSU president George Hanbury II, “Keep your aim above your reach.”

College Names Teachers of the Year, Distinguished Professor
Each spring, the college recognizes one full-time and one part-time faculty member as its outstanding teachers of the year, honoring their strong commitment to learning and student success. These awards reflect the endorsement and support of peers and students. Congratulations to the following college faculty members.
- Leanne Boucher, Ph.D., assistant professor, has received the 2012 Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences Full-Time Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award.
- Payton Fuller, M.S., visiting professor, has received the 2012 Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences Part-Time Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award.
Additionally, the college has announced a new, annual award honoring an outstanding senior faculty member.
- Charles Zelden, Ph.D., professor, has been named the 2012 Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences Distinguished Professor of the Year. The award is presented to a faculty member with at least 10 years of full-time teaching experience at NSU, a sustained record of scholarship, and a portfolio demonstrating excellence in teaching.
Quadrivium Makes for Great Summer Reading
The college has published Issue 4 of Quadrivium, an online journal showcasing analytical and creative works by college faculty members and graduate students in various disciplines.
Quadrivium’s fourth issue includes content ranging from argumentative and analytical essays to photography and short fiction. The journal’s digital format allows readers to view materials referenced in various entries. Embedded images and videos enhance the collection and make Quadrivium an engaging reading experience.
College's Magazine Wins Award
Farquhar Forum, the magazine of the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences, has won a 2012 Gold Communicator Award, which recognizes outstanding marketing and communications publications. The 2011 issue of Forum earned the Award of Excellence for educational institution magazines.
The annual magazine includes profiles of students, faculty, and alumni, as well as in-depth coverage of guest speakers, performances, and research endeavors.
