Community Partnerships
As a multidisciplinary institution, the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences was founded on the concept of partnership and collaboration amongst students, faculty members, and diverse disciplines. To this end, the college also strives to build strong ties through meaningful community partnerships and affiliations. These relationships with local organizations not only provide students exposure to professional productions and exhibitions as well as opportunities to gain experience, they also present possibilities for broader insight into career options, goals, and a personal sense of purpose.
Ars Flores Symphony Orchestra

The Ars Flores Symphony Orchestra, NSU’s orchestra in residence, is a unique professional orchestra with professional, conservatory, college, and gifted high school students performing side by side. As role models and mentors, the professionals demonstrate high quality musical performance and model professional behavioral standards for students. The orchestra gives students a rare opportunity to rehearse and perform with talented professional musicians, all of whom hold at least one degree in music. The repertoire includes a wide variety of engaging and challenging works, including world premieres of new music. Season staples include an annual concerto competition for high school, university, and conservatory students; Music for Munchkins mini-concerts for children; and pre-concert lectures aimed at making the classics more understandable and approachable. Public master classes, conducted by guest artists, also are offered to South Florida student musicians and observers.

Museum of Art | Fort Lauderdale

Part of the university's expanded campus, the Museum of Art | Fort Lauderdale, Nova Southeastern University provides the best in visual arts exhibits and educational programs to South Florida. Founded in 1958 and with a collection of more than 6,000 works, the Museum of Art has become one of South Florida's leading cultural attractions, with past exhibitions ranging from Diana: A Celebration to Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs. The museum also offers community visual arts classes through its Studio School and hosts an active performing arts program, including Inside Out as its resident theater company, In addition, the highly regarded Artist in Residence Program broadens the sphere of conversation about contemporary art.
The Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences and the Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale have developed a close relationship since summer 2008, drawing on the college’s new art major and utilizing the museum’s resources to support student internships and coursework. College faculty members continue to offer an array of disciplinary expertise for lectures and scholarship. Likewise, the museum’s exhibits and cataloged art provide cultural, historical, and artistic resources for a range of courses within the college.
